Shivpuri is located in the central indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The district derives its name from God "Shiva". The district was known as Narwar district during the times of Gwalior State, although its Headquarter is at Shivpuri. It has a cool and dry climate.

Madhav National Park, Madhav Vilas Palace, Sakhya Sagar Boat Club, Bhadaiya Kund and Chhatris are a must see at Shivpuri.

Madhav National Park was setup when the state of Madhya Pradesh was formed in 1958. It lies between Agra-Bombay and Jhansi-Shivpuri Road. The park remains open throughout the year. The George Castle, built by Maharaj Jiyaji Rao Scindia, is at its highest point in the park. The park has abundance of wildlife. Leopards, wild boar, sloth bears, hyenas, crocodiles and many species of deer including chitals, nilgai,gazelles, antlopes and sambar are the other animals found at the park. Jeeps are the best way to travel around the Madhav National Park, as they are readily available.

Chhatris
Shivpuri is also famous for Chhatris (cenotaphs) erected by Scindia Princess.

The nearest railway station is Jhansi, located at a distance of 100 km. It is connected by regular bus services with Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore, Jhansi and Ujjian.

Ujjain

Situated on the right bank of river Shipra is a very holy city for the Hindus. Ujjain was previously a centre of the textile industry. Wheat as the major Kharif crop and Soybean as the major Rabi crop are grown each year.

Mahakaleshwara, Bhartrihari Caves, Bade Ganeshji Ki Mandir, Chintamani Ganesh, Harsiddhi temple, Kal Bhairava, Har Kirti Mandir, Gopal Mandir and Navagraha Mandir are a must see.

The Mahakaleshwar temple at Ujjain is located in a spacious courtyard surrounded by massive walls. The idol of Mahakaleshwar is known to be "Dakshinamurthi", facing towards the south. The temple also has images of Ganesh, Parvati, Kartikeya and Nandi (Shiva's Bull).

The lingam at Mahakal is one of the Jyothirlingas in India, is believed to be swayambhu (born by itself) deriving currents of power from within itself as against other idols and lingams which are ritually established. Mahashivratri is a big event here.

Indore is the nearest airport, connected by air with Bhopal, Bombay, Delhi and Gwalior. Ujjain is a railway station on the Western Railway line connected with major cities in India.
